Charismatic actor Gang Dong Won was in Singapore last week for an exclusive closed door fan meet at Singapore Press Holdings and Seoul Rhythms was there for the round table interview prior to it.
We heard that he was busy the whole day doing endless rounds of media interviews but he appeared at our interview session on time, with no sign of fatigue.
Gang Dong Won has lost some weight since his last visit to our sunny island, but he is still the shy actor without any airs. He seemed a bit nervous and mentioned that this was the first time doing such a close up round table interview in English. He jokingly said that he was not very confident doing it in English but his team pushed him to do it.
The veteran and versatile actor has acted in many roles, from heroes to villains, as he likes a good challenge and a good script. However, romantic comedy is not really his type of genre, preferring serious and meaningful stories. He named his character in ‘Kundo’ as well as ‘Duelist’ as two of his favourite. But he also mentioned that he doesn’t choose any certain role, instead he takes up any roles as long the story/ script is good, so we may yet see him in a romantic comedy.
An interesting nugget- Gang Dong Won would really like to be Quicksilver in a X-Men movie and disappointed that he wasn’t given a chance. He would love to have the superhuman ability to move at great speeds. What do you think? Can you see him as a super hero?
The actor is also an avid foodie, having tried a wide variety in Singapore from the obligatory pepper crab, chicken rice to surprising items like prawn paste chicken and poh piah. And if any fans out there happened to see him in Singapore again, he would love to try a good bowl of soup noodles.
Gang Dong Won will be making his Hollywood debut as the main lead of a upcoming new movie called ‘Tsunami LA’, set to be released in 2019. He is currently busy preparing for his role in the new movie, reading script and finding out more about being a surfer even though he is not going to surf in the movie.
Fan Meet
Gang Dong Won made his entry into the fan meet venue to the screams and excitement of of 100 lucky fans in attendance. Dressed in all black attire, looking tall and lanky (which was why he started out as a model). He seems awkward at first, and started the meeting with a simple introduction in English.
The first segment of the fanmeet was the Q&A session from the fans. One fan asked what kind of food he ate to become so good looking. He laughed and thanking the fan, he replied that he would have to ask his mother what she fed him.
The next segment was the choice game. Fans had to choose 1 out of the 2 choices to personal questions before he revealed the correct answers. It was an interesting game and fans familiar with his personality would be able to guess the right answers. But it still came as a surprise to many that he chose wine over soju! And food over sleep! He would rather text than call… Guess there are many more things to discover about this quiet, charming man. The lucky winners at the end of the game each received an autographed postcard set of his latest movie, ‘Golden Slumber’ from the actor himself, with a handshake and even a hug!
It was a fun night with Gang Dong Won. A dream come true for the many fans present to spend an exclusive evening with their favorite actor. He was proficient in English and didn’t really need much help from the translator, except for certain words and names of food he tried in Singapore. We are truly impressed with this humble guy and wish him all the best for his big Hollywood movie debut next year!
