Korea's film distributor CJ E&M is prepping for an international rollout of Korean parasitic film "Deranged" by debuting the movie first in North America.
CJ E&M officials announced in a press release Monday that "Deranged" will make its premiere in 12 different cities in 12 theaters in North America and Canada starting July 27.
The Kim Myung-min and Shinhwa's Kim Dong-wan starrer will open in select theaters in Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Jose, Honolulu, Vancouver and Toronto.
"Deranged," which is now into its fourth week in theaters here, tells the story of a pharmaceutical salesman named Jae-hyuk (Kim), who tries to figure out the cause of mysterious drowning incidents happening in South Korea.
Jae-hyuk later suspects that his family is showing symptoms like the victims who have already died from drowning, and through his brother, who is a detective (played by Kim Dong-wan), he learns about the parasites that have caused the nationwide chaos.
The sci-fi thriller has become one of the most-watched films in Korea this year since its opening on July 5 and also managed to steal the No. 1 spot from Hollywood blockbuster "The Amazing Spider-Man." |
