將在下月12日開幕的戛納電影節上﹐韓國導演朴贊郁的《Old Boy》入圍了競爭單元。負責海外發行的Cine Click Asia方面21日表示﹐該片原計劃參加非競賽特別上映單元﹐但戛納電影節主辦方邀請《Old Boy》參加競爭單元。

. K; }1 X. m5 H! L' V5 R7 ULocal news is reporting that Hong Sang-soo's WOMAN IS THE FUTURE OF MAN has been invited to the competition section at Cannes. This would make it only the third Korean film ever to compete, and the first one set in contemporary Korea (the other two were Im Kwon-taek's CHUNHYANG and CHIHWASEON). Go Hong!. T* B+ h% q7 t% w+ o) P
1 C& m+ j- M" y- m$ P# `No news yet on whether OLD BOY will make it into the competition section. It's guaranteed at least a slot in one of the festival's other sections, but I heard that the selection committee for the main competition is also considering it. We'll see... I'll be pretty thrilled if both films make it in.

There are also rumours that Song Il-gon's SPIDER FOREST will be in the Director's Fortnight section. Song is the director of FLOWER ISLAND, and he won the Jury Prize in the short film competition at Cannes in 1999.# h, l: P( E5 i+ j# L

I'll be going to Cannes for the first time this year, to report for the dailies published by Screen International. Should be interesting... I hope to have time to write up some kind of festival report for this site, but we'll have to wait and see.

Yonhap News has quoted the film's international sales company as saying that it's true the film will be in competition. It was originally slated for an out-of-competition slot, but apparently they re-screened it for the competition selectors a couple weeks ago. Anyone want to bet on the chances of the Tarantino-led jury picking Choi Min-shik as Best Actor, or of OLD BOY winning the whole thing?. R1 @# `6 i: Y6 Y3 }
- M: s, Z g2 p1 P& YMy personal feelings about the film will not change a whit if it wins or loses, but this is a great chance for it to get some real publicity. I can see this movie becoming a real cult item.
