People often enjoy talking about love and defining what love really is, whether they are in love or not. Lost in Love사랑을 놓치다 shows us a particular love story between a man and a woman as many other movies do and it arouse a question among audiences about whether that kind of love still exists in the 21st Century. With possibly the two greatest actors of Korean cinema, Song Yun-a and Seol Kyung-gu and the acclaimed director Chu Chang-min, who last directed Mapado마파도, is it any wonder that it has drawn the attention of movie goers everywhere? Lost in Love was previewed in a Seoul Theater at Jong-no with many expectations on January 2, and The Teen Times met Song Yun-a and Seol Kyung-gu to talk about their latest movie.
TTT: This is your second time being filmed together after Jail Breaker광복절 특사. How do you feel about each other as an actor and an individual ?
Song: I found he can still curse as well as ever (laughs). I was amazed that he could act perfectly even though he didn't practice during rehearsals. He was born to be an actor.
Seol: When I first saw her, I had some preconceived ideas about who she was. I heard she was arrogant and prim- minded . But while I was filming Jail Breaker, I changed my mind after watching her sacrifice herself for the movie. We became very close and we still keep in touch . I think the roles Song's played have really toughened her up .
TTT: Mr. Seol, your role in this movie, which is about an ordinary man who is unfamiliar with expressing his love, seems very different from your previous roles in movies such as Rikidozan역도산, and Public Enemy공공의 적. Was there a reason for selecting this movie? And Miss Song, what were your reasons for doing this?
Seol: Rikidozan, was a physically demanding movie. After the movie, I wanted to take a rest . So I chose to do a romantic movie instead of an action flick .
Song: I decided to shoot the film after I read the script . I wanted to change my image because I think the public thinks of me as just another popular star and not as a real actor. I gave myself up to the role as much as I could, so I could display my natural abilities. These thoughts are gradually growing as I become older.
TTT: Miss Song, how did you feel about your acting when you saw the movie?
Song: Every time I see myself on screen, I see only the bad aspects of my acting and then I get embarrassed . While filming this movie, I did my best to try acting as naturally as I could to remove my desire of wanting to look better on screen. But after I watched the completed movie, I realized I failed to do it. I was still trying to show a better side of myself instead of just being me.
TTT: Mr. Seol, there is a scene where Woo-jae, which is the role you played, has to say he's sorry after spending one night with Song's character Yeon-su. How do you feel about the scene?
Seol: I only said sorry to Yeon-su because the director wanted me to (laughs). I think Woo-jae isn't sure whether he really loves her or not and that's probably why he's apologizing .
TTT: Miss Song, you play Yeon-su who is in a one-sided love affair with Woo-jae for 10 years but never reveals her true feelings to him. Did you understand Yeon-su as you performed ?
Song: I know some people say that kind of love can't exist in the 21st Century. Although I have no experience being in a one-sided relationship, I had no problems understanding her. I think the emotions and characteristics that people have aren't that much different than in movies. I think there are many people living around us who are just like the character Yeon-su.
TTT: Mr. Chu, was there any particular reason why you selected Song and Seol for the movie?
Director: They have a strong onscreen presence and they brighten people's moods . I also had to consider which actor could convincingly play parts ranging in ages from a college student to someone in his or her 30's. Especially, Seol was the only actor I felt who could play all the roles.
TTT: Lastly, can you briefly share what the movie's about?
Director: This is a typical love story that everyone should understand and relate to. I really emphasized the experiences taken from daily life in the movie. |
