새로 시작하는 드라마에 대한 기대 때문일까. 그 어떤 질문보다 가장 빠르게, 힘차게 대답한다. 박시후 그 못지않게 대중들 역시 그의 새로운 변신에 기대하고 있다. 그동안과 다른 한층 더 가벼워진 캐릭터를 선택한 이유는 뭘까.

"이번엔 굉장히 능청스럽고 유들유들한 캐릭터를 맡았어요. '가문의 영광' 작가님이 예전에 제가 출연한 '완벽한 이웃을 만나는 법'의 작가님이세요. 그래서 주저 없이 선택하게 됐죠. 작가님이 워낙 센스 있게 글을 잘 쓰시거든요."

이번 드라마에서 박시후는 색다른 경험을 했다. 일지매로 변신한 것. "다들 한을 품었다고 애기하네요? 저 한 없었어요.(웃음) 원래 제 역할이 일지매가 아니라 시후 역할이었기 때문에 한을 가질 정도는 아니었어요. 해보니까 쉽지 않더라고요. 더운 여름에 복면 쓰고, 저는 잠깐 있었는데도, 얼굴에 땀이 차고 숨쉬기가 힘들더라고요. 그런데, 준기씨는 철가면까지 쓰고, 거기다 액션까지 했잖아요. 보통 집념이 아니면 힘들겠구나싶었다니까요. 정말 시후 역할을 하기 잘했다고 생각했어요.(웃음)
Park, Si-hoo did a lot of different things in this series (meaning ; shooting a preview of the An honor to my family). Being Iljimae, for example. "Everybody says my dream's come true (laugh). That was not my dream because originally it was not my role. Being Iljimae wasn't easy at all. Wearing a mask on a hot summer day, though for short while, made me sweat all over my face. I could hardly breath right. But Lee, Joon-Ki, did even acting with it on. I think he is really a man of commitment. I thought it was a good thing to play Si-hoo (laugh).
"더운 날씨 복면까지 쓰고 뛰어다닌 것은 물론, 여주인공 윤정희에게 여러 번 따귀를 맞아야만 했다. "따귀를 많이 맞아요. 맞을 짓을 해서는 맞는 거긴 한데, 쾌 아프더라고요."

박시후는 종종 '가문의 영광' 촬영 전 한강에 들른다. 조용히 한강을 바라보며, 발성연습도 하고 강석의 캐릭터를 연구하기 위해서다.
He often stops by the Han-River on his way to the set for the series for a time to do some voice training or thinking about his role.
"강석이 무게가 있는 남자잖아요. 마초적이면서 남성적인 모습을 보여주기 위해서는 보이스가 좋아야 하잖아요. 그래서 요즘(웃음) 목소리를 굵게 나오게 하기 위해서 한강에 가요. 촬영 전날 한강에 가서 발성연습을 하죠. 또, 답답할 땐 드라이브 겸해서 미사리 쪽 한 바퀴 돌고서, 한강 인적 드문 곳에 가서 막 소리 지르고 오고 그래요.(웃음) 스트레스도 풀고, 발성연습도 하고 드라이브도 하고 1석3조죠. 워너래 드라이브하는 걸 좋아하거든요."
"Kang-seok is such a serious guy. So I need to sound macho and masculine to match it. The river provides a perfect place to practice lowering the pitch of my voice. I often drive along it all the way to 'Misari' to take my mind off everything, sometimes yelling when nobody's around (laugh). It is like catching three birds with a stone: driving, voice training and stress releasing. I really enjoy driving.
50부작 '가문의 영광'으로 매주 주말 대중을 만나고 있는 박시후. 이번 작품의 성공에 대해 물으니 무조건 잘 될 거란다. "무조건 잘될 것 같아요. 예감이 좋거든요. 저희는 저희 나름대로 색다른 드라마를 만들고 있어요. 기대하셔도 좋아요. 앞으로 저랑 50번 만나요."
Asked whether he thinks the series will be successful, he says "I am certain that it will be a hit. I have a very good feeling about it. We are trying to make the series special. You will never be let down. I will see you every weekend in the next 50 weeks."
