Korean box-office hit “A Werewolf Boy” is expanding its battle field to North America this weekend.
The fantasy romance is to meet American moviegoers in three theaters in California--CGV Cinemas in Los Angeles, Edwards University Town Center in Irvine and Regal La Habra in Fullerton--plus Regal Village Square 18 in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 30.
In the following weekend, the sad love story is going to meet broader range of audiences in 13 big cities including San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Atlanta, New York, Toronto and Vancouver.
An official from the pic’s distribution firm CJ E&M said they are eyeing on a total of 20 first-run theaters and also in negotiations of opening the movie in Japanese cinemas.
Rising star Song Joong-ki’s transformation into a wild boy previously nabbed North American film lovers’ eyes at the 37th Toronto International Film Festival where the pic held its world premiere screening in September.
While topping weekend box office for four straight weeks here, director Jo Sung-hee’s second feature has attracted over six million moviegoers in only 26 days of opening.
Fired up by the more-than-expected responses especially from female audiences, the extended edition of “A Werewolf Boy” is to hit the local theaters next month including undisclosed two-minute ending scene.
The film tells touching love story between a young werewolf boy [played by Song], who has been abandoned by the world, and a beautiful teenage girl [played by Park Bo-young] who used to isolate herself but opens up her mind with the boy's help.
