After she left the room., Kenneth took out the ring he had no chance to give to Nicole and placed it on a doll. As the doll moved alongside the music, he stared at the ring for a long time and tears shone in his eyes… This night, both were unable to get to sleep…
The next day, everyone congratulated Nicole on her impending trip to England. Nicole began her last broadcast in MBS and Kenneth watched her from the control studio. Today’s programme featured how sisters from a convent took care of some young children. Suddenly, Nicole saw Erica on the screen! Erica was playing with the children from the convent! Kenneth also noticed Erica at the same time. Colleagues were curious when her voice and expression changed. They turned to the screen and saw Erica too. When Nicole dashed out of the office, Kenneth was already waiting in his car.
After a long journey, they finally arrived at the convent. Nicole caught sight of Erica and tears rolled down her cheeks. She had finally found Erica! Kenneth greeted Erica but she looked bewildered, “I’m sorry, but who’s Erica? Do you know me?” Kenneth checked with the Sister and realized that Erica had lost her memory, “Our students had rescued her from the lake. She still remembered her hometown and we made some enquiries but to no avail. Our convent can’t receive MBS’ shows so we didn’t know that she’s a news broadcaster. She’s perfectly normal but just can’t recall anything beyond the first six years of her life.”
Seeing Erica in this state, Nicole was overwhelmed by her emotions, “Erica, we have been looking all over for you! Father and Aunt Alma are very worried about you. Have you forgotten about everything?” But Erica could only look at this stranger before her and say, “I’m also very confused. Except for the memories of my father and mother, I can’t recall anything. Can you tell me more about myself? What kind of a person am I?” Nicole felt pain sear through her heart, “You are beautiful, with a strong sense of pride. You make everyone envious of you, that’s why Warren…” She felt so sad, “You have forgotten about Warren as well?” Erica hesitantly took out a photo from her wallet, “The person called Warren… is he the one?” Nicole nodded. “He is the person I liked, right? I knew it. All I had with me is this photo… Jin You Zhen… You Zhen, he had a very nice name. Is he already dead?” Nicole was shocked. Had Erica’s memories come back? “No, it’s just that everytime I looked at this photo, I feel very sad. So, I guessed he might not be on this earth anymore… Nicole, did I love Warren very much?” Nicole caught hold of Eriac’s hands and cried, “Of course! You really loved Warren a lot, I knew it…”
In the end, Erica decided not to go back with Nicole and Kenneth. She said to Nicole, “I really like it here. Thanks for coming to visit me. Nicole, what exactly of a person am I? Except that I’m a broadcaster, and that I’m very intelligent, am I… a kind person?” Nicole nodded at her, “Yes. And Erica, you are my best friend…” As Erica watched them drive off, she touched the necklace Nicole gave her. Nicole had given the necklace back to her again.
In the car, Kenneth mentioned that Erica had looked really happy and contented. Nicole said, “Senior, do you know why Erica could only remember the first six years of her life? Because her mother left them when she’s six and so, her happiest moments were those before she was six. I guess she hadn’t wanted to live with all the bitter memories for the rest of her life… Erica had changed so much… She looks so innocent, beautiful and blissful, right?” Kenneth felt relieved that Nicole could finally set her heart at ease, “How about you? Do you feel blissful?” Nicole felt really like crying, “Yes! How about you, Senior? Do you feel blissful?” Kenneth turned and smiled at her. If Nicole could marry him, he would be the most blissful man on earth, he thought…
Near her house, Nicole suddenly said to Kenneth, “Senior, I want to walk home from here…” She couldn’t look at him, “I don’t have the courage to say goodbye to you at my doorstep…” Kenneth didn’t want to let her go but he nodded and pulled the car to the side. Nicole tried to hold back her falling tears, “Senior, I would always be grateful to you for all the concern you have shown me. No matter what unreasonable things I ask of you, you had always supported me… Tomorrow, please don’t see me off at the airport, I don’t wish… to let Senior see my back as I’m leaving.” She didn’t want to leave him… “Everyone seems to have something they need to do now… Once I reached England, I will learn to live my life independently. Thank you for everything… Senior, goodbye.” She got off his car.
Hearing Nicole’s words, Kenneth’s tears almost fell… Nicole was within his reach and yet he had to let her go! Nicole stood at the red light junction, waiting to cross the road. Tears rolled in her eyes. They… had started from a road junction years ago too… Suddenly, Kenneth made up his decision. He got off his car and ran towards her, “Nicole!” Nicole turned, tears blinding her view. Kenneth looked deeply into her eyes and said, “Everyone… seems to have something they need to do now…” Nicole looked at him. What was it that he needed to do now? Kenneth held up her hand, took out the ring he had specially chosen, and put it on her finger, “Will you marry me?” His voice was cracked from his bare emotions. He looked at her, “Please don’t go...” Nicole looked at the ring that symbolized the everlasting promise and nodded. Tears of joy rolled down her cheeks… She’s not going anywhere… Nicole cried her heart out, she would never want her beloved Senior to wait for her anymore, or to see her back as she’s leaving again… No matter where he went, she wanted to be with him forever. Xiang Zhe’s eyes shone with his intense and burning love, “Nicole, I love you…” On this busy road junction, he pressed his lips onto Nicole’s. They kissed passionately and began a new chapter of their lives… |
