Jun Jin, All grown up at the Beach
Popular group Shinhwa member Jun Jin often known as 'dance machine' is paving his way as an actor.
Jun Jin through Jang Tae Hyun is showing the cold businessman but so innocent in front of love hotel CEO on SBS special weekend drama <Lets go to the Beach>. In comparison to KBS <Gumiho Wae Jon> last year, Jun Jin is receiving criticism that he has upgraded to a much more natural actor.
We met Jun Jin at the location of the drama Kang Won Sokcho resort, braving the sweltering heat in a full suit and sweat streaming down, acting through passion. Jun Jin who says "I always consider my acting as only 50%" showed off his strong eagerness, "In the future I'd like to act in a great action movie as well."
- What is working with the other actors like?
▲ The senior who plays my father, Dokko Young Jae is also my father (Charlie Park) high school senior so he takes extra care of me. Out of the other actors Lee Wan, Lee Chong Ah and Kang Jung Hwa, I'm the oldest. But I try hard to lift up the atmosphere by being cute and joking around.
- In contrast with the other actors who show off a lot of skin, you wear a suit.
▲ In the 5th episode theres a scene where I play volleyball with the workers. I thought 'this is my chance' and before the filming of that scene I worked hard working out. But it seemed strange that the hotel CEO would suddenly take off all his clothes. In the end after all that work, only two buttons of the shirt were undone.
- They say you work out a lot.
▲ I put a few simple work out machines at the place we stay while filming. When I was initially bringing exercise machines from Seoul, i got greedy and put in as much as I could but when the car couldnt go forward I had to leave a lot behind. Thanks to this Lee Wan, Park Jun Suk and other actors invade my room every night. Its to the point where I'm filmed all night but they keep coming and ask me to work out with them.
- Do the Shinhwa members cheer you on?
▲ Every member is so busy with their own acting, filming and other schedules. But yet they're always saying they're going to come down here. In particular Dongwan hyung has promised many many times but we'll see (laughs). The text messages the members send cheering me on becomes a great strength to me.
- There must be a lot of hard points filming at the beach where a lot of tourists come to.
▲ Its already been 8 years since I've debuted. Before I used to think 'I'm only human too' but after going through a lot of things I now think since I'm a public figure I should be more careful. Sometimes when I have to say no to autographs because of filming I hear a lot of strong abusive insults but I just laugh and turn away.
- The ratings are not as high as you'd like them. [NB. this interview is from several weeks ago, 'Lets go to the Beach' ratings are now continously rising rapidly. ]
▲ I think of it as fate. I just work my hardest. Of course I'd like it if the ratings were high but I dont think the ratings are setbacks for me.
- How is it if you compare it with singing activities?
▲ I once heard that acting is continuous waiting but I'm really realizing that. I've waited inside the car parked underground for 15 hours. I then found out that the other actors waited in their hotels. But I'm feeling as if I'm growing through acting. Theres a lot of times while I wait I think, listen to music, read the script and learn and understand about myself.
- Tell us about your future plans.
▲ I'm receiving more movie scenario's than drama scenarios. I want to try a really great action movie. I've developed a greed for a solo album as well so I'm working hard practicing singing. I will be showing myself in a way that will suprise everyone.
