AAE Recap – Wednesday’s Episode (May 18, 2005)
Warren and Nicole were on an assignment. Nicole sensed that Warren was feeling down and tried to cheer him up to no avail.
Lately, “The Morning of Eve” had been suffering from poor ratings. Allan met up with Kenneth to discuss about the programme. Allan warned Kenneth that Mr. Kim might be devising a plan to fix him. Is he afraid? Kenneth joked whether he would believe if he told him that he was afraid. Allan said that he mustn't say that he was afraid because if Mr. Kim would raise his sword, he would hide behind him! As they chatted, Allan asked Kenneth the one question which had been bugging him, “Tell me, what did you like about her?” “What?” For a moment, Kenneth did not understand his question. Allan decided to ask him straight, “I mean, what did you like about Nicole?” Nicole? The mere mention of her name made Kenneth happy. He turned around to check if anyone’s listening and asked Allan back softly, “Are we not compatible?” Looking at his nervous reaction, Allan felt amused. He replied, “It’s not that. It’s just that I’ve always thought women like Judith or Erika would suit you better.” Kenneth smiled. He didn't want any other woman, for he knew Nicole’s the one who would suit him best! As they walked, Kenneth saw Erika waiting for them ahead. It turned out that Allan had also asked her along to discuss about viewrship over dinner.
In the restaurant, Erika pointed out the problem and both men agree. Allan had to leave early as something had cropped up in the office. Kenneth wanted to return with him – he wanted to avoid being with Erika alone but Allan could handle alone. Kenneth was quiet and confessed that he was frightened to be with her. Since Warren and Nicole were on an assignment together, he tried to ask Erika to call them. Unwillingly, she got through to Nicole’s phone but because she was having a bath, the call was picked up by Warren. Erika was shocked to hear Warren pick up Nicole’s call. Kenneth’s hands holding the knife and fork freezed in the air. What was he doing in Nicole’s room? . Warren heard Erika’s voice and hanged up the phone. Just then, Nicole came out from the bathroom and Warren told her he had broken off with Erika.
On hearing their breakup, Nicole felt furious for Warren and demanded to know why Erika had decided to break off with him. But how could Warren tell her the truth? He had already hurt Nicole too much. How could he tell her that now, his own girlfriend was breaking off with him to go after her boyfriend? He could only reply that maybe Erika had found someone better than him, someone who can help in her career progression…
On their way home, Erika noticed Kenneth crest-fallen look and decided that this was a good time to act. She purposely asked him sadly, “I guess you must be wondering why Warren is with Nicole… in fact, he had already broken off with me.” Hearing this, Kenneth felt his heart tightened. Warren had broken off with Erika? Is the crisis here afterall? Erika pretended to choke on her tears, “No matter how hard I try, I still can’t compare to what they have shared for the past twenty years.” Erika’s words pierced through Kenneth’s heart like a sword. Although he replied her saying that one cannot force love to order, he had his own worries deep inside too. At home, he smoked one cigarette after another and pondered Erika’s words. Although what he told Erika was true, he was still a man. When the fear of losing his love was surrounding him, he still felt tortured by it. He couldn’t sleep for the night.
The next morning, Kenneth was going to work when he saw Nicole waiting for him outside his house. She was feeling troubled over Warren and thought of confiding in Kenneth. Over breakfast, she kept mentioning Warren’s name. Kenneth recalled Erika’s words last night and felt very uneasy. He didn’t want Nicole to be upset over Warren. She was his girlfriend and not Warren’s girlfriend. Nicole realized her mistake – why is she so dumb? He promised Nicole to give Warren and Erika another chance at patching back. However, he also made her promise that whatever the results were, it would be up to them to decide on how their relationship would develop. He did not want Nicole to worry herself unnecessarily over this matter anymore. Kenneth requested Allan to arrange the two to go on an assignment to London. Allan had a headache – it was fine if she was a reporter but not an anchorwoman but he still consented to it. behalf.
When Erika received news of her assignment, she was enraged! Except for Kenneth, no one had such authority to send her on an overseas assignment with Warren. And the reason why Kenneth had done this was very clear – for Nicole! She found Nicole and splashed water on her. She scolded Nicole for making use of Kenneth’s authority to send her abroad. Nicole sincerely persuaded her to treat Warren better. But Erika only coldly retorted her, “ If you care so much for Warren, you could jolly well return to his side!” Later, she went to see Kenneth regarding the assignment, hoping he would send someone else instead. But Kenneth told her that it was his sincere wish that the assignment would partly serve as a chance for her and Warren to patch back. Erika confessed her feelings for him, “What about my wishes then? I had originally thought that I loved Warren. But since I got to know you, I finally understood. The person I’ve been waiting for is you.” Facing this, Kenneth only uttered, “This is really shocking.” Erika felt very disheartened by his cold and indifferent response.
Erika and Warren went to London for an assignment job but their relationship did not improve as Nicole had hoped. |
