Recap of AAE – Tuesday’s Episode (May 17, 2005)

On her birthday, Nicole was thrilled to hear that someone had anonymously paid for all the hospitalization expenses. Her colleagues laughingly said that her sincerity had touched the heavens. She happily called Kenneth to tell him of the good news and said this was the best birthday present she had received. Kenneth’s secretary got the present for him and informed him that the operation was to be done at Wen Rong hospital. He reminded her not to let others know about it. If others knew about it, he might bring Nicole trouble again.

At night, Kenneth celebrated Nicole’s birthday in an elegant open-air restaurant. He chose a restaurant that provides sea view and also an orchestra band was performing.. As the musicians played soft music behind them, Kenneth thought to himself, “Would I have the chance to celebrate her birthday again next year? Would we be here? Would Nicole be with me then?” Nicole realized his silence and asked what he was thinking. He looked at her with mixed feelings and said, “On your birthday one year later, two years later, ten, twenty years later, I hope to be with you…” Nicole felt her heart warmed and jokingly replied him, “Oh, that would have to depend on your performance then!”

Over candle-lit dinner, Kenneth handed Nicole the present he had chosen specially for her and she opened it eagerly. He nodded as he wanted to see her happy expression too. On an elegant silver chain was a shining pearl surrounded by two precious stones. It represented his feelings for Nicole perfectly. Nicole was overjoyed. She recognized the pearl as her birthstone but what about the other two precious stones? Kenneth went on to explain that the peridot was his birthstone and the unburnt part of a meteorite when it fell down onto earth. He said to her, his voice charged with emotions, “If your pearl comes from the deep ocean, then the peridot would have come from the other side of the universe… but now they are placed together.” Hearing his words, Nicole was very touched. She knew that this was like them – the gap was almost from the sky to earth. He was confident and was a master of power. She was slow in response and clumsy but both were together. She tried it on her wrist but it was too big.

Kenneth smiled, saying, “It’s not a bracelet.” In front of all the people, he walked over to kneel in front of her. Although Kenneth was tall, she never felt intimidated looking up at him. Nicole looked into his eyes and felt very fortunate. He was past caring how others think and suddenly squatted near her. Nicole was taken aback at Kenneth’s sudden actions. She looked around nervously and touched his shoulder. His actions caught the envious looks of the other patrons and she felt so embarrassed. What was he trying to do? He didn’t care her warnings and fixed it around her ankle and brought the precious stones together. Just like the peridot stones always surrounding the precious pearl.

Nicole was touched although even the orchestra musicians smiled at her. Still kneeling in front of Nicole, Kenneth looked deeply into her eyes and said, “A dialogue in a movie once said, to give an anklet as a present signifies the promise to meet in the next lives. We make a promise to meet in our next lives…” On her birthday, he solemnly made this wish.

On the way sending her home, Kenneth wondered whether he was still the only one loving her. Does she love him now? Nicole was very thankful to Kenneth for all he had done for her. and shook his hands as a gesture of gratitude. As she was getting off the car, Kenneth pulled her back into the car seat and kissed her forehead. His eyes shone with love as he said to her, “I’m so happy to have you. Your birth brings me hope and I hope to bring you happiness.” Nicole’s face flushed red, “In the past, I did not realize how fortunate I was. But I’m really very fortunate to have known you.

Warren’s mother met up with Erika. Warren had been feeling very depressed lately and she hoped that Erika would show more concern for him. As a token of her acceptance of Erika, Warren’s gave her a ring. She even suggested letting Erika have her room if she agreed to move in with them. Erika realized Warren hadn’t told his mother of their breakup yet. This day, she was admitted to the hospital again. There, she told Warren plainly that she had lied to him about her earlier pregnancy and the medicine she took were actually for her menstrual pains. Warren was shocked at her confession but still couldn’t believe her words. But after checking with the doctor, he realized Erika was speaking the truth afterall. Although he felt very miserable, he still expressed his willingness to wait for her. But Erika wanted to make a clean break with him. To pursue her dreams, she was willing to give up everything, including Warren. But Warren knew of Kenneth’s deep feelings for Nicole. To which Erika coldly replied, “I will make him mine at all costs! I will stake everything I have to get him!” After Warren left, Erika cried bitterly. She still loved Warren deeply but had made the cruel decision…

Recap of AAE - Monday's Episode (May 16, 2005)

Cielo’s boyfriend, Choi, blurted out that he saw Erika with Kenneth at the baseball session the other day. All the colleagues were shocked at this news but half-believed it. Judith was also surprised that it was Erika, and not Nicole, who had accompanied Kenneth. Choi had lunch with Cielo. She asked him if he had told all that they held hands together. He said no but he was shocked to find a BIG crowd upon looking up. Cielo’s voice was so loud that all get to know about it. They started to ask each other who Director Yun is and found out that he was the mysterious person who seldom appeared before them.

At the recording studio, Nicole was doing the radiocasting job.

Nicole: We received another postcard from Helen. This song is for her. With that, we’ll have to say goodbye. See you tomorrow night.

Nicole couldn’t help but cry after saying goodbye to the listeners. She was really very much affected by the problem of one postcard sender. She went to her co-workers to greet them.

A: Thanks. Everything’s ready for tomorrow?

B: Not yet. Look at this.

Nicole: Thanks for the work.

A: Each time you read Helen’s letter, you cry. You cry so easily.

Nicole: No one has come forward to help her?

A: There are donors, but the sum is still not enough. I am donating our special gathering funds, but it still way off the target amount.

B: Thanks to you, our unit still can’t get together for a feast.

Nicole: If it instant noodles, I can treat you.

In the meeting room, all are waiting for Nicole.

Producer: Is everybody here?

Choi’s Senior: Nicole isn’t here yet.

Allan : The radio programme isn’t over. Let’s wait a while.

Erika: She’s only in charge of the arts segment and need’t be present.

Choi: No matter how small her segment is, we should still wait for her. (He was annoyed by what Erika had said)

Cathy: Yes, of course we’ll wait. (She called Nicole) Nicole, where are you?

Producer: Two scriptwriters aren’t here. We’ll wait.

Erika: OK.

Scriptwriters: Sorry we are discussing something important.

Producer: Please be punctual.

During that Nicole, Nicole then arrived.

Nicole: I’m sorry.

Allan: Sit over there.

Producer : Everyone here. Let’s begin.

Nicole : You don’t have to come.

Producer : Nicole, Arts Window is your segment?

Nicole : Yes.

Producer : If the show overruns, we’ll have to lift the segment. It the last segment and that’s our only choice.

Nicole: All right.

Producer : Erika

Erika : Yes.

Producer : MBS Special is going to report on the show. You’ll be the model for the poster. I leave that to you.

Erika : All right.

Choi : Just the female host?

Producer : For live reporting next week, we’ll focus on the Theater Festival. Nicole, is it your turn?

Nicole : I’ll be ready.

After the meeting, Judith inquired Erika on the matter about the baseball incident but the latter tried to avoid the topic. Judith advised her to be more discreet in her behavior to avoid unnecessary rumors.

Nicole was unaffected by the rumors. She got Kenneth’s SMS. Kenneth left a short message on Nicole’s mobile phone : See you at the usual place. Nicole and Kenneth were finally going out again! They secretly avoided the other colleagues to go for dinner together. Nicole felt their discreet actions resembled those in a FBI movie and laughed heartily.

Kenneth have had a bad day at work and over dinner he asked Nicole.

Kenneth : You have to give me some energy. It’s been a bad day.

Nicole : Is it related to the show host, Piao MeiYing?

Kenneth : A little related.

Nicole : There, didn’t I tell you? Someone who works only for the money will give you trouble one day because of money.

Kenneth : Let’s hide in London.

Nicole : Huh?

Kenneth : I missed those days in Cambridge.

Nicole: I can understand your mood but I still have things to do. I must catch up with Erika. If I run away, I’ll always live with a sense of failure.

Kenneth : There’s a strong side to you.

Nicole : You’re surprisingly weak.

Nicole noticed that Kenneth was looking at him very closely.

Nicole : Why are you looking at me like that?

Kenneth : You’re very cute.

Nicole : You should tell my dad that. It must be because Mom died early. He’s especially pleased whenever he hears someone praising me. He’ll grin from ear to ear.

Kenneth couldn’t help but smile. Nicole was really so adorable to her.

After seeing her home, Kenneth was about to drive off when she called him.

Nicole : Kenneth! I feel a little embarrassed. Actually, I wasn’t going to tell you but…. this Saturday is my birthday.

Kenneth : Really?

Nicole : Do you want to come?

Kenneth’s heart leapt with joy! Of course he wanted to attend her birthday!

Kenneth : Who else have you invited? (He hoped that he would be the only one.)

Nicole : Everybody will be there.

Kenneth : Everybody? (Kenneth was a little bit disappointed – she should only celebrate it with someone she loves.)

Nicole : You and …….me.

Kenneth laughed at her mischief. He was so amused that she made fun of him. Just then Nicole’s Dad returned home.

Nicole : My dad is home, I am going in.

Kenneth : Wait! (A thought struck him and he told Nicole) Since I have agreed to your request, you should agree to mine as well.

Nicole: What is it? (She wasn’t clear of what’s happening).

Before Nicole could understand the meaning in his words, he went over, grabbed her hand and walked towards Nicole’s Dad. He formally introduced himself to the bewildered Uncle

Kenneth : Uncle, how do you do? I am Kenneth. It’s already so late… I’m sorry, I will be more careful in future and Nicole home earlier

Nicole : Senior!

Nicole struggled to break free but Kenneth’s grip was too tight. .Nicole’s Dad was looking at this man holding on tightly to her daughter’s hand.

Nicole’s Dad : Er, do you want to take a seat inside?

Kenneth : No, thanks. I will come by some other time. It’s already late now but I had wanted to greet you. Goodbye.

Nicole’s dad: Goodbye.

Kenneth finally let go of Nicole’s hand and whispered his goodbye to her. Nicole’s whole face flushed red. Kenneth was satisfied with the result while Nicole’s dad didn’t expect this pleasant surprise. Upon seeing the scheming smile on his face when he left, Nicole shook her head. She didn’t know what to do with him.

After Kenneth left, Nicole’s Dad asked her about Kenneth.

Nicole’s Dad : That’s the guy who bought you the dress? Little imp! You said you were busy.

Nicole : I’ve been busy dating. I met him in London and we ran into each other at the TV station.

Nicole’s Dad: That’s the guy who knocked you down? Why didn’t you tell me? I would have taught him a lesson. He almost hurt my precious daughter. Next time I won’t let him off.

Nicole: Dad!

Nicole’s Dad : Look at you! You’re already defending him.

Actually Nicole’s father was only joking. He was amused to see Nicole so tensed up. Both of them laughed heartily.

The next day, Nicole's Dad and Warren's Mom were chatting with each other. Warren's Mom asked Nicole's Dad how was Nicole's boyfriend. Nicole's Dad jokingly said that Nicole's boyfriend looked like him during his younger days. Warren's Mom laughed and at the same time felt very sad because Warren and Erika were having some miscommunications. Nicole's Dad told her to be kind to Erika so that Erika would also treat Warren nicely.

In the office, Kenneth was busy surfing the Internet and going through product advertisements. He had wanted to get a special birthday present for his beloved Nicole. Upon seeing the ring brochures, he smiled. That night, while listening to her song dedication radio programme “Musical Postcard”, he heard Nicole appeal for donations for a listener’s brother whose operation was suspended due to a lack of funds. He decided to do something for Nicole and helped the listener pay for the hospitalisation fees. On her birthday, Nicole was thrilled to hear that someone had anonymously paid for all the hospitalisation expenses. Her colleagues laughingly said that her sincerity had touched the heavens.

Recap of AAE Friday’s Episode (May 13, 2005)

Erika called Kenneth and disturbed his sleep. (How I wish to be at his side looking at his charming face on a bright morning) He looked around and discovered the handphone after realizing that his handphone was not the one that was ringing. It turned out to be Erika’s phone. He called Erika telling her that her phone was with him and Erika made a trip to his house to retrieve it.

Kenneth : I could have dropped by your place. Why bother to come?

Erika: It’s ok. You’ll be going to the baseball stadium later? I would love to go with you.

Erika and Kenneth arrived at the baseball stadium. There, the colleagues were all surprised to see them together.

Kenneth : It has been hard on you.

Choi’s Senior : Mr. Xu, he is our new Director of Planning.

Xu : How do you do?

Kenneth : It has been hard on you. I came to watch the match.

Choi’s Senior : Thank you.

Erika : How do you do.

Choi’s Senior dragged Kenneth aside.

Choi’s Senior : Mr. Yun, I don’t think we asked you for a gift, right? (He was confused-didn’t he like Nicole?)

Kenneth didn’t know what to say and his unwillingness was shown beneath the shades when she hooked his arm.

Choi was also angry when he and Cielo saw them sitting together.

On their way home, Kenneth treated Erika to a meal. Ying Mei tried to seduce Xiang Zhe but he kept his distance from her and was indifferent to her flirtations.

Erika : Thank you. A toast to you.

Kenneth : No need. I have to drive later. You drink.. Today is a holiday. Why aren’t you on a date? Is Warren very busy?

Erika : What about you? I feel that you try to keep your distance from me. In what way am I not comparable to Nicole?

She looked up at him. Kenneth is one person she couldn’t fathom at all

Erika: Nicole … do you love her?

Kenneth : Erika, I don’t think we are in the position to discuss such matters.

He told her his thoughts, sharp and clear. Erika was taken aback at his straight forwardness

Erika: Naturally. It concerns the two of you. But it could have started as a one-sided thing initially.

Kenneth : You are a strange person. I thought you loved Warren. You don’t seem to know where your feelings lie.

Erika: I do. In fact, I know it very well. That’s why I said what I said. Love is not a matter of right and wrong. It should be a matter of yes or no. Am I right?

Kenneth: It’s late. We should go home.

Kenneth got up to leave. . At this time, Warren was locked out of the house and he could not reach Erika on her handphone…

At home, Nicole chanced upon the videotape and recalled Kenneth telling her to watch it when she’s free. She had been busy and had forgotten about the whole matter. Curiously, she loaded the videotape into the player and was surprised to see Kenneth’s image appear on the screen. Kenneth looked very shy. He adjusted the camera and even before he said anything, he was already laughing.

Kenneth: I’m a little embarrassed but I couldn’t care about that right now. The reason why I wanted to pass this tape to you is that…. Nicole, don’t cry anymore. If you cry, it would be the most heart-breaking matter to me on earth

He pressed the remote control and the screen immediately showed images of Nicole’s past performances. Nicole watched as the images showed her first audition in MBS, her hiccuping on the live broadcast, to the errors she made on the shows… Scene by scene, the videotape recorded her learning process and more importantly, it captured all her smiles and laughter. Finally, the screen paused at the image of her laughing merrily after her broadcast won applause from the audience. Nicole felt her heart warmed. Kenneth’s image reappeared on the screen.

Kenneth: This is your expression which I liked most. I will always let you smile in this way. I promise.

Tears welled up in Nicole’s eyes. She was deeply touched by the fact that Kenneth had painstakingly made this tape for her. She smiled sweetly, knowing that someone would always be there for her.

Kenneth drived Erika home. Warren watched angrily as Erika alighted from Kenneth’s car. He waved the door keys at her and demanded for an explanation. She calmly told him that she wished to break up with him. She had decided to go after Kenneth and thus the decision to jilt Warren. Warren was furious to hear these words and nearly slapped her. But Erika hardened her heart and dealt him with the final blow, saying that he didn’t love Warren and she had never loved him before. He repeated the words again and before she could finish her sentence, Warren gave her a tight slap and left the house. In truth, Erika loved Warren very much but her ambitions forbid her to change her mind. She had no intention of changing her plans, her decision… After Warren left, she broke down in tears. Warren, on the other hand, got himself drunk. . Poor man – he started to think that it was his retribution for forsaking Nicole.

While passing by the broadcast unit, Kenneth was attracted to a familiar voice. He walked over and was glad to see Nicole doing well. She had finally stepped out of her distress. Erika saw Kenneth’s comforted smile from afar and felt very disappointed.

Recap of AAE Thursday's Episode (May 12, 2005)


Nicole thought she was a real failure. Now even Kenneth ignored her. She felt hopeless without him. Although she should return on her own, she missed the times he sent her home and started sobbing again. She was crying bitterly when Kenneth found her. . Upon seeing her in the office, his nervous glances ceased. Was she all right? He knew that she suffered for him but she never complained to him. He really neglected her and didn’t understand her feelings. Nicole looked up and saw Kenneth standing in the doorway, panting heavily and perspiring with sweat. His face looked flushed with anxiety. How she wished to run straight into his arms at once! But she could only manage to say in a small voice, “I’m sorry… I didn’t want to call you but it seemed like a habit and I just naturally dialed your number...” She said chokingly, “But I also know that, you wouldn’t have the time to listen to my troubles like what you did in the past… but….” She could not finish her sentence and sobbed her heart out. Seeing her tears, Kenneth felt a pain sear through his heart. He walked over and wordlessly pulled her into his arms. Nicole fell into his arms, sobbing loudly, “I’m so sad… What should I do now?….. I had thought… you weren’t coming…” She was really afraid that Kenneth wouldn’t come afterall. Kenneth sighed. How could he ever leave her alone? “It’s alright now….” He held her in his arms, soothed her hair lightly and whispered into her ear, “Don’t worry, everything’s fine now…” He patted her back gently and comforted her like a child… If only he stood beside her at all times, all would be fine


When he finally sent her home, Nicole had already fallen asleep in the car, probably too tired from crying. He raised his hand to move the hair away from her eyes. Even though she had swollen eyes now, she still looks pretty to him. She woke up and he forced himself to retreat his hand. (Maybe he had the urge to kiss her then.) With her around, the journey was always short. Nicole felt embarrassed and grumbled that she didn’t want anyone to see her like this. Kenneth looked at her intensely and said, “It’s not just anyone, but me that you don’t wish to see you like this, am I right?” Nicole did not understand his words. He carried on, “Because it’s me, so you called… And because it’s me, so you were angry. How I wish it was really because it’s me….” His words tinged heavily on sadness and Nicole couldn’t bear to look into his eyes.


Why her? Why treated her so well? She went down the car and he followed her too to look at her. She didn’t wish him to look at her back but he still stood there quietly. Kenneth refused, saying he wanted to see her go in first and told her to have a good sleep. He always treasure his moments with Nicole. But Nicole was adamant, “No, you go off first. I don’t want you to see my back each time…., because you are Senior... Because it’s you….” Kenneth was stunned and his big, dark eyes were fixed on her. She hurried home with a red face, telling him to be careful on his way back. He still looked at her back but the joy filled his heart. He couldn’t resist the smile forming on his lips on the way home. Although he still saw her leaving, he was willing to wait for her. The years that he had taken had finally won her


After the incident, Nicole still felt very despondent but tried to pick up her spirits. Kenneth did not try to comfort her further. He understood that Nicole had hoped to stand on her own and would not accept his help in any way. All he could do was to stand behind her and give her the moral support when she needed it. This day, he went to the archive department and searched for the videotapes of Nicole’s past performances. He wanted to compile a videotape for Nicole and began to learn editing techniques under the curious eye of the Editor. He did it after work but sometimes, he was so engrossed that he only remembered to smile at her on the screen. It was 7 pm and he looked at the news.


Warren came in and happened to see him. He saw the screen and looked at Kenneth – what was going on? He knew that Kenneth was outstanding. Erika wanted to seduce him the other day and his mother was very angry over it. What would happen if he was attracted by her? Warren asked about Nicole and Kenneth said that she was suspended from her duties. He recalled her swollen eyes and started blaming himself.


Kenneth asked if he was alright with Erika. Warren was in despair – why was he always asking about her? Moreover, his expression didn’t tell him anything. Kenneth noticed his silence and looked at him. He didn’t know why he couldn’t bring himself to dislike his love rival. Maybe he resembled Nicole so much. He admitted that he envied Warren but he didn’t elaborate as he felt that only Nicole would understand him. He invited You Zhen to participate in his next project – the revamp of the Morning Show.

At the board meeting, Kenneth revealed his plan to revamp the Morning Show into a new programme called “The Morning of Eve”. The two main hosts would be Allan and Erika. The others would be in charge of other segments on sports, entertainment and arts. Nicole was only a co-host and she was unhappy that her segment was placed near the ending and would be axed if there wasn't sufficient time to air. His exciting presentation and comprehensive proposal received overwhelming response from all around. In addition, his confident disposition during the question and answer session made the management see him in a different light. His step-uncle was very displeased but his subordinate told him not to worry yet because if the new show flop, Kenneth would be in dire straits then.


The Morning of Eve was a big hit with the audience when it was first aired and viewership soared to a record high of 25%. Kenneth hosted a small celebration gathering at his house. He openly praised Erika and Allan, who were the main presenters, for their contribution. Erika sarcastically commented that the show would definitely receive good ratings as they had their Goddess of Luck - Nicole - in their group. Nicole felt very embarrassed by her remark but could only bow her head in sadness. When Kenneth reached for a cigarette, Erika immediately went up to light it for him. Warren was very displeased with her actions. Earlier, Erika had chosen the seat nearest to Kenneth when they arrived. As for Nicole, though she understood Kenneth’s feelings for her, Erika’s flirtations still irritated her. As they chatted, a colleague asked Kenneth if he was visiting the baseball session the next day. Kenneth had planned to visit the sports presenters. On hearing this, Erika thought of an idea and deliberately left her handphone behind the cushions on the sofa…


After the gathering, Nicole was walking off when Kenneth called her from behind. Kenneth went after her and held her shoulder. He wanted to send her back to the station but she declined as he drank wine earlier. He lamented that she was a mischievous person and it would be tiring if someone marries her. She got offended. Kenneth looked at her deeply and looking a little bit shy, he hesitantly handed her a videotape. He hoped that the tape could help her in her work and asked her to watch it when she’s free. Nicole smiled and knew he cared for her. As he watched her leave on the taxi, Kenneth felt a little embarrassed and laughed at his own foolishness.

The next morning, Kenneth was awakened by the ringing of a handphone. It turned out to be Erika’s phone.

Recap of AAE Wednesday’s Episode (May 11, 2005)

Nicole’s outstanding performance earned her the most popular newcomer and she was asked to do interviews for numerous newspapers and radio programmes. Watching this, Erika was furious. She looked for Judith and pretended to pour out her grievances to her. Judith could only try to comfort her saying there would be more opportunities coming her way. But Erika thought angrily, “Opportunities are all self-made! And Nicole would never have the chance to overtake me!” She stood up, looked at her handphone and suddenly an idea struck her. She smiled deviously…

Nicole was preparing to broadcast the news when she caught sight of Erika in the studio. She was a little puzzled but thought no further of it. Later, right in the middle of the live broadcast, a ringing tone suddenly sounded throughout the whole studio. Nicole’s expression changed. What’s that sound? In an instant, the whole broadcast studio was thrown into chaos! The producer was fuming mad and demanded to know the source of the ringing. Allan realized the ringing came from under Nicole’s table and told her to search at once while he continued with the broadcast. As the camera panned to Allan, Nicole quickly ducked under the table. She searched through the rummage of wires… Suddenly, she found it! Holding her handphone in her trembling hands, she was completely shocked. Why was her handphone found under the table? She remembered clearly leaving it in the makeup unit earlier!

Mr. Kim was also jumping mad and demanded to change the broadcaster immediately. During this time, Erika and Judith were having dinner outside. It turned out that Erika had secretly placed Nicole’s handphone under the broadcaster’s table and called her during the live broadcast. She even called Nicole purposely on her handphone and warned her to be extra careful in future. Nicole recalled seeing Erika earlier before the broadcast and instantly realised that she had been framed by her! However, she lacked the evidence. Though she pretended to appear strong in front of Erika, she couldn’t bear with the hurt after all and began to cry uncontrollably in the office. She called Kenneth’s home number but he wasn’t here. She sobbed, asking him what she should do. No one believed her. She hanged up in despair.

Kenneth drived home from the airport. He was sent to Japan for an assignment and didn’t get to see the news. Was Nicole alright? Hopefully she had not created another mistake. He really missed her. Upon reaching home, he listened to the 2 telephone messages. One is from Mr. Kim – he should be the one going and wanted to know about his trip. Kenneth felt disgusted hearing his voice and skipped it. He stood up to release his tie. Suddenly he freezed upon hearing a familiar voice, “Senior, what should I do….?” Nicole was crying very sadly on the phone. Had something happened to her? An ill feeling came upon him. He nearly went mad and ignored his weariness. He grabbed his jacket and his keys and charged out of his apartment.

He contacted Allan to know what happened earlier when he found that Nicole has switched off her handphone. The more Allan told him, the paler his face became. He shouldn’t have gone to Japan. This would not happen if he was around. Now, where was she? He pressed the horn and rushed to MBS. He ran all the way to the studio to see Judith reporting the 9 pm news. She saw him. The others became very tense – why was Director Yun here? Was he here for a sudden spot check? Too many things happened and all became very nervous. Kenneth looked around and didn’t see the person he wanted to see. He dashed from room to room, looking for Nicole’s whereabouts. She must be very upset. Kenneth was anxious – where had she hidden herself to cry again?

Nicole thought she was a real failure. Now even Kenneth ignored her. She felt hopeless without him. Although she should return on her own, she missed the times he sent her home and started sobbing again. She was crying bitterly when Kenneth found her. . Upon seeing her in the office, his nervous glances ceased. Was she all right? He knew that she suffered for him but she never complained to him. He really neglected her and didn’t understand her feelings. Nicole looked up and saw Kenneth standing in the doorway, panting heavily and perspiring with sweat. His face looked flushed with anxiety. How she wished to run straight into his arms at once!
