Rumors have been swirling like choco fondue and nilla-fudge ice cream that:
1. Slave rebels will be annihilated. Those caught alive will be prosecuted -- along with the scholars captured earlier -- for treason on the state. “That Person” aka Legolas (so nicknamed by the netizens) is supposedly related to the gisaeng, and by default to Lee Gyeong-Sik as well. Cho-Bok dies in Ep 22.

2. Contradictory rumor suggests that “That Person” works for Prince Bongrim, in some kind of ploy to weaken Lee Gyeong-Sik’s gripping control of the royal court.
[Notes: After succeeding the throne, Prince Bongrim/King Hyojong was known to have executed a key political figure (Kim Ja-Jeom) right before the man's coup attempt. Ironically, it was this person and his powerful conservative Westerners faction (Seo-In) who crowned Hyojong’s father Injo as the King after overthrowing the previous ruler. Kim also happens to be the grand-father-in-law of Hyojong’s half sister.]
That said, as little sense as # 1 makes, it is imho probably more persuasive than # 2.

Pure speculation or dark truth?
The events of Ep 21 ~ 22, backed by no evidence at all, but ramping up out there:
HCU and his five “black hounds” attack the village. They miss TH and DG, but not GC and WS this time. True death finally comes to our homeboys. No word on JG. UN/HW, the little prince and SH are taken hostages. DG and TH learns of the tragic fate of the village and their loved ones, and transform into raging infernos.

CRAZY talk also making the rounds:
Lee Seon-Yeong’s illness (CP) is not real but merely an act put up because of her father Lee Gyoeng-Sik.
And I thought nothing could top the creativity of our eminent Soompiers.

Adding to all this, more from PD Kwak Jeong-Hwan. Turns out his interview the other day (3/10) was actually much longer (although I don't know why it's not being carried in other news outlets it's an exclusive with SisaIN News Magazine). Briefly, he had a bit more to say:
• Frankly 'Conspiracy in the Court’ may have ended with a tragic content, but it did leave behind a faint hope. The true motive behind that drama was to show that a tragedy doesn’t end just as a tragedy. With Chuno, however, making a piece of work that’s popular among the public is more important than anything else. “Another failure and I’m probably never going to get to direct a drama again,” was a pressing reality. So the truth is I’m going to convey the message of hope in plainer language. The story delivery is done in far more simple and relaxed terms -- you’ll see what I mean.

• I’d always thought that drama was journalism, and for that I was literally knocked senseless by the criticism from many seonbae (선배/senior). After ‘Conspiracy in the Court’, I spent the last two, three years doing a lot of thinking. Here I am trying to communicate with the public, but have I been (doing it wrong) and communicating only with those who are accepting of my stories? So I found a simple way out. I will try this one time, if it doesn’t work, then I will just change to another method. In making Chuno, I’m going through that process and waiting for an answer.
• In the original script, General Choi and Wang Son perish in episode 15. Their deaths were meant to serve as a device for Dae-Gil to realize his own limitations. But, that function aside, the two also provide a means to explore the hope theme and were therefore spared for the time being. In the drama, (they) have, right now, gone to Jjakgwi’s village, and before long that village will probably fall into danger because of Dae-Gil. Then to save the village, must they die a second time? I’m having a tough time deciding on that.

• In the drama, Seol-Hwa is 17 years old. During Chuno’s planning stage, I was instructed to cast famous actors. So I really pounded the pavement knocking on the door of every famous actor of that age range: Park Bo-Yeong, Mun Geun-Yeong, Lee Yeon-Hi, Go A-Ra and so on. I was refused by all. Kim Ha-Eun who’s now playing Seol-Hwa got aboard out of her own brimming motivation. Also we hit it off while making 'Conspiracy in the Court' and she’s again doing wonders in her role.
