Hollywood kicked off its awards season with the Golden Globes on January 16 and is now headed to the Oscars on February 27. It's a time of red carpets, glamour, celebrities and a fevered pitch as movie fans and industry leaders alike speculate about the winners.
The Best Foreign Language Film category helps to promote international movies to hundreds of millions who tune in to watch the Academy Awards telecast every year, but – for the most part – they can be overshadowed by all the buzz about Hollywood stars and movies at this time of year.
Not necessarily so for fans of Korean movies. The CGV Cinema in Los Angeles' Korea Town will start showing "The Housemaid - 2010" on January 21. Directed by Lim Sang-soo, the remake of the 1960 movie is a thriller and drama, and was at Cannes last year in the official selection and also at Toronto in September.
In reviewing "The Housemaid - 2010", Sheila OMalley wrote in Capital New York: "It is now 50 years later. Korea's film industry is once again dazzling viewers around the world, and in this current climate of excitement and anticipation, "The Housemaid - 1960" has been remade by acclaimed director Lim Sang-soo".

And Movieline's Stephanie Zacharek leads off her review with: "Lim Sang-soo's "The Housemaid - 2010" is a lush, chilly entertainment that's a little bit Hitchcock (in its wickedness and coolly composed visuals) and a little bit Sirk (in its numerous over-the-top flourishes, often involving disastrous household accidents)".
